Consider This

I searched the Word for verses pertaining to approaching the God of the universe in prayer and put together some steps and things to consider. While definitely not an exhaustive list, I think it has the potential to change our prayer lives.

First, recognize His authority…

And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.” Matthew 28:18 NAS

and remember that He has enough power…

“Ah, Sovereign LORD, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.” Jeremiah 32:17 NIV

and that He owns everything…

For the LORD is the great God, the great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land. Psalm 95:3-5 NIV

then consider He blesses us for others…

Yes, God will bless us, and people all over the world will fear him. Psalm 67:7 NLT

and because He loves us…

How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! 1 John 3:1 NIV

But we are to be godly…

For you bless the godly, O LORD, surrounding them with your shield of love. Psalm 5:12 NLT

and seek His will above our own…

Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT

We remember that God is unfathomably generous…

Since God did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t God, who gave us Christ, also give us everything else? Romans 8:32 NLT

so we ask…

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.” Matthew 7:7-8 NAS

with right motives…

When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. James 4:3 NIV

and align our hearts with His…

Delight yourself in the Lord; And He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, and He will do it. Psalm 37:4-5 NAS

and trust our God who is good and gives what is good…

Indeed, the LORD will give what is good. Psalm 85:12a NAS

and to give us everything we need…

And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 NAS

Then we rejoice, which draws others to Him.

He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD. Psalm 40:3 NIV

Then they will recognize His authority…

and they will remember that He has enough power…

and they will be godly…

and they will ask and receive…

and they will rejoice…

If you have not received Christ’s free gift of salvation, know this verse: “For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, And abundant in lovingkindness to all who call upon You.” (Psalm 86:5 NAS)

And these:

Romans 3:23

Romans 6:23

Romans 5:8

Romans 10:9-10

Romans 10:13

I encourage you to look up these verses for yourself in an accurate translation, write them down, pray, and talk to a pastor from a Bible teaching church. If you have come to salvation, welcome to the family of God! You are in for the ride of your life!
