The Wind Atheist

Once there was a man who didn’t believe in the wind. Although he had heard it talked about, he had never seen the wind or been able to hold it in his hand, so he knew it did not exist.

Of course, there were times when he felt an oddly pleasant sensation of movement around him, times when his hair would raise up, moments when on a hot day he would suddenly feel cooler.

There were fall days when the leaves would move across his yard, swirling and floating, seeming to take on a life of their own, with some kind of unexplained energy.

And sometimes snowflakes wouldn’t fall straight down but instead would skid sideways as if propelled by an unseen hand.

But he knew that leaves and snowflakes are perfectly capable of moving on their own.

He knew that things just happen.

And he knew that there is absolutely no such thing as wind.

If you have not received Christ’s free gift of salvation, know this verse: “For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, And abundant in lovingkindness to all who call upon You.” (Psalm 86:5 NAS)

And these:

Romans 3:23

Romans 6:23

Romans 5:8

Romans 10:9-10

Romans 10:13

I encourage you to look up these verses for yourself in an accurate translation, write them down, pray, and talk to a pastor from a Bible teaching church. If you have come to salvation, welcome to the family of God! You are in for the ride of your life!

  1. And one day, that wind atheist said to a believer in wind, “Hey, so you claim wind is a real thing?
    Prove it!”

So the wind believer went and explained, “Wind is caused when hot air meets cold. Cold air is dense, and so it sinks, sometimes very quickly, and with force! This causes gentle breezes in small amounts, and powerful gusts when the difference between hot air and cold air is big! Not only that, but look, I can blow out my mouth and cause air to move, and if we look at the planet Jupiter, we see storms there too, likely caused by the same principles!”

So the wind atheist had a good, long thought, and came to the conclusion that the wind believer was right.

But the believer in god could only point to bible verses and vague events, and tried to pretend that half of the book isn’t literal and the other half is metaphor, while still believing it all truly happened, despite the lack of any real evidence, and the sad fact that any supernatural event that he tried to claim was real, ended up being proven false.

The atheist had a good, long thought, and came to the conclusion that all religions are mostly trying to do something good, but are using the power of mythology and delusion to do it, which often leads to bad results, such as cultural destruction via forced conversion, manipulation of people because they trust religious leaders who have a greedy heart, the oppression of people who don’t follow religious law and the fear of being watched by an angry, jealous, god, all of which ended up causing something called the “dark ages”, which intelligent people fear more than anything else.

Returning to those dark, violent times when religion ruled the world is a scary thought, so we try hard to figure out the real cause behind magic and mayhem, even if it ends up not being a god or spirit, but just a quirk of the natural universe.

The atheist shrugged and look up at the sky, into endless space. “Even if Muslims, Christians, Hindus and pagans don’t agree with me, we all still live under the same black blanket. And we all see the same twinkling gems in the sky. Life is beautiful, no matter what one believes.”

The atheist smiled, and looked over to his friends, and they smiled back, despite their differences.

The wind was calm, and the air warm.

    1. Romans 1:18-20 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.
